IB Paper 2 - Topic 10: 20th century authoritarian states - USSR - Lenin and Stalin
There are three themes to cover in 20th century authoritarian states. IB examiners have made it clear that the USSR is a single authoritarian state and therefore rise to power of Stalin (1924-28) is not relevant to the 'emergence' theme. Contrary to these examiners I would argue Stalin is relevant to the consolidation theme (but do not risk this in exam!)
1. Emergence - Bolshevik Revolution, Lenin and Marxism 2. Consolidation and maintenance - 1917-18, Civil War and Stalin. 3. Aims and results of policies. Lenin and Stalin |
