This first semester of history is Janus faced, we look to past but also to the future. With the new Matu timetable here at Ecole Moser, we begin teaching the content of the Maturité Fédérale Suisse in semester 2 of Year 11 (11e).
In this first semester we need to complete the chronological overview of history you began in Year 9 (9e). But this is also an opportunity to introduce students to the other main innovation at Ecole Moser the Double Diploma. Studying history in the International Baccalaureate presents some interesting new challenges. We are going to preview some of them here. |
There are ten lessons, one introductory lesson and then nine lessons that look at warfare at distinctive moments in history. Each of the lessons on warfare has a 'heritage object' illustrated in the images below and a special case-study where we examine some aspect of the war in more detail.
Assessment
This unit has three major assessments.
1. A factual test on the content of lessons 2-10. A practice quiz is avaliable here.
2. An essay on the changing nature of warfare in the period 1500 to 2000. This will be completed in class in one 45 minute lesson.
